The "big orange buildings" of VT San Antonio Aerospace are a landmark at San Antonio International Airport, where we have more than 700,000 square feet under roof for our MRO operations.
Founded by Dee Howard in 1964, the original company grew into a well-established MRO operation before being sold to Alenia Aerospace Group in 1991. The company was sold again in 1998, to a private investment company. In 2002, it ran into economic problems and was purchased by VT Systems which re-opened the facilities and quickly rehired many of the original workforce. That gave the company an instant team of experienced and highly talented employees who had high confidence that VT San Antonio Aerospace was in it for the long run.
Since then, VT San Antonio Aerospace has seen strong business growth and developed a key core of customers, many of whom date back to the Dee Howard days, while both the workforce and our on-site capabilities have greatly expanded.
From 2002, VT San Antonio Aerospace has invested some $20 million in new and upgraded facilities and technology, while becoming recognized as one of San Antonio's top employers and a strong corporate citizen in the community.
